Grade 6 to Grade 10

In years 6-10, students follow the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP). This builds on the work of the Elementary School (the IB Primary Years Programme and prepares students for entry to the IB Diploma Programme (Years 11 and 12) a universally recognized and highly challenging academic course which allows students to gain entry to universities and colleges worldwide.

The Middle Years Programme is broadly based: students must study their first language (Language A), a second language (Language B) Science, Mathematics, Humanities, Physical Education, Technology, and Performing or Visual Arts.

The combination of the academic rigor and flexibility, which is the hallmark of the Middle Years Programme, means that it not only lays a substantial foundation for entry into the Diploma Programme but also eases the transition between other international systems of education.

We believe that the Middle Years Programme, which is based on a clear understanding of how adolescents learn and develop, offers a higher quality of student learning.

Middle Years Programme

Throughout the MYP, students require:

- A sound knowledge base across a wide range of subjects;

- The ability to find and process information;

- A holistic view of human understanding;

- Skills in communicating;

- An awareness of their role in society.

The MYP develops links between individual subjects through the following Areas of Interaction

- Approaches to Learning: the intellectual discipline, attitudes, and skills, needed for independent thought, problem solving, and 'learning how to learn;

- Community Service: community awareness and concern, a sense of responsibility, and the skills to make an effective contribution to the society;

- Health & Social Education: physical and mental health, awareness of potential hazards, and the ability to make informed choices;

- Environment: an awareness of our interdependence with the environment, and the impact of political and economic decision-making on global environmental issues;

- Homo Faber: the human capacity to shape and improve the quality of life, and the relationships between science, aesthetics, technology and ethics.
